- The books and TV adaptation are divided on this topic. The following article will focus on the book version, citing the adaptation only where the book lacks information. For the adaptation's version, see Pamela Joplin
Albert Joplin, portrayed on the Lockwood & Co. TV Series as Pamela Joplin, is the antagonist of The Whispering Skull and is a researcher who works with Paul Saunders. He commissioned the relic-man, Jack Carver and his accomplice, Duane Neddles, to steal the Bone Glass from Kensal Green Cemetery.
In the Netflix TV series, Albert Joplin is instead Pamela Joplin. She is portrayed by Louise Brealey.
History[]
Albert Joplin comes along with Paul Saunders of Sweet Dreams Excavation and Clearance to visit Lockwood & Co. at their headquarters of 35 Portland Row. Saunders introduces him as his associate and he does not speak at first, but seems very interested in Anthony Lockwood's collection of Asian ghost-catchers. When prompted, he explained himself as being the company's archivist. When Lockwood asked for more details on this, it was Saunders who provided them, explaining that Joplin dug for stories. Joplin then explained that he looked through historical records and cross-referenced them with newspaper reports to find the "risky" investments - people who came to nasty or tragic ends and therefore might manifest as powerful ghosts. George Cubbins recognized him as being the writer of a chapter on medieval burials in a book titled History of London's Graveyards.[1]
Appearance[]
He is described as little and seemingly the type of person who is entirely forgettable, stoop-shouldered and tweedy with seemingly no chin. His shoulders are covered with what Lucy Carlyle at first believes to be dandruff,[2] but which she later realizes is actually grave dust from all of the time he has spent in underground catacombs.[3]
Trivia[]
- The character of Joplin represents one of the most major changes seen in the Netflix television series, as the character is changed from the male Albert Joplin to the female Pamela Joplin. Her actual role is similar to that of Albert, though she seems to form a deeper connection with George.
