The Bone Glass was a relic created in the 19th century by Dr. Edmund Bickerstaff with the help of his associates and his faithful assistant, now known as the Skull. It was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery with Bickerstaff's body.
Description[]
The Bone Glass was a mirror of about a head's width. Its rim was made of seven human bones from 7 spirits.
It was said to show enlightenment to whomever was looking at its mirror; but, paradoxically promptly kills the viewer. One glimpse at its mirror causes its victim to be obsessed with it. In proximity to the glass, such victims hear a wheedling voice urging them "Look, look. I give you your heart's desire."
Legacy[]
The Bone Glass was the first gateway to the Other Side ever confirmed to be made; although it was too deadly unlike the gateways made by Marissa Fittes, Tom Rotwell, Ezekiel and Steve Rotwell.
History[]
Sometime in 1877, Bickerstaff and his talented assistant, a male youth, now the Skull, helped him create the Bone Glass. The Skull was the only one who could sense spirits among the group and so his involvement was vital.
On December 13, 1877, the group, namely the aristocrats Simon Wilberforce and Lady Mary Dulac, implied to be including other curious people, tested the Bone Glass. Skull suggested to Bickerstaff that the eager Wilberforce would be willing to try it. Wilberforce did and died as a result.
Following his death at the hands of Mary Dulac, Bickerstaff was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery with the Bone Glass in an unmarked grave not recorded on the official records. The affair was largely forgotten to history until over a century later, when Sweet Dreams Excavation and Clearance was hired to examine Kensal Green as part of DEPRAC's new policy regarding Active Remains, or Sources. As part of the ongoing Problem affecting the United Kingdom, even old burial sites which were previously declared safe had started manifesting dangerous ghosts. As such, DEPRAC hired companies such as Sweet Dreams to examine the graves at such sites, seeking anything with psychic charge that might present an issue.
At first, Sweet Dreams did not find anything out of the ordinary, but after making some progress, they discovered the unexpected headstone marking the grave of Edmund Bickerstaff. The site was investigated by one of their sensitives, who had a terrible reaction and became quite ill. It was then that Paul Saunders, the head of the company, realized that they might be dealing with a Type Two ghost and called in the services of the Lockwood & Co. agency to investigate further.
As per their duties, the members of Lockwood & Co.: Anthony Lockwood, Lucy Carlyle and George Cubbins secured the grave, seeing to it that the body of Edmund Bickerstaff was made safe by placing a silver net over Bickerstaff's body and thus containing his ghost, silver being the most potent of defences against ghosts. In the process, however, they also discovered Edmund Bickerstaff's Bone Glass, recognizing it as being a powerful relic of uncertain significance. Following their investigation, the Night Watch kid who was assigned to watch over the site was knocked out and the Bone Glass stolen.
The Bone Glass was smashed by Lucy Carlyle during the events of book 2. After the events in the Catacombs, the Bone Glass's broken pieces were retrieved by the DEPRAC.
