A changer is a relatively uncommon type of Type Two ghost. Changers can change their shape into any form[1]. Changers often appear as animals, but strange forms are not uncommon. They have the ability to cover wide areas with ectoplasm, easily surrounding multiple Agents at once[2]. Changers are often very hard to destroy because of their unpredictability[1][3]. While changing shape, these ghost emit flares of plasmatic light, making changes in Apparition clearly noticeable[4]. Changers are extremely dangerous, as they can fool inexperienced or less sensitive Agents into believing they are weak Type Ones, luring them into traps[5].
Known Hauntings[]
Wythburn Mill Incident[]
- Main article: Wythburn Mill Incident
In the Wythburn Mill Incident, a team of Jacobs & Co. Agents encountered a Changer. Due to their inexperience, they classified the ghost as a weak Type I, based on it's temporary Apparition as a faintly visible little kid. While Agent Lucy Carlyle was suspicious of this Apparition[5], based on her talented hearing, being able to notice "Another voice Maybe?"[6]. Her concerns weren't met with caution by her supervisor Agent Jacobs, though, leading directly to the incident. In the incident, all members of the team except for Lucy Carlyle lost their lives to the powerful ghost[5]. After leading the Team into the building, the Ghost changed shape into a "monstrous shadow"[7].
Combe Carey Hall's Red Room[]

The red Room before the Cluster became active
In the Red Room of Combe Carey Hall, a cluster with abilities of a changer and potentially a poltergeist[8] reached a legendary status for many years, until a hunt by Lockwood & Co. successfully secured the source of Combe Carey Hall's main haunting, allowing the rest of the ghosts in the cluster to be taken care of.[9]
The Red Room’s name came from this cluster, as its main Apparition was that of ectoplasmic blood which could quickly cover the room. This claimed the lives of two Fittes Agency operatives, who were seemingly unprepared for the sheer power and speed of the cluster. This incident caused the room to be kept shut until the team of Lockwood & Co. was allowed to enter, in an attempt to murder them using the cluster. During this hunt, the cluster managed to invade a ring of iron chains using its shape-shifting to get in the middle of the ring, making it useless. It then tried to corner the Agents, who were able to escape through a secret door, leading them to the ultimate source.[2][9]
