"I'll tell you about it another time"
This article is scheduled for a Rework.
Ectoplasm, also known as simply plasm,[citation needed] is the substance that ghosts are made up of. In his incessant experimentation, George finds that ectoplasm is only mildly reactant to heat and electricity. When Lockwood and Co breaks into the Rotwell industrial complex in The Creeping Shadow, they find horrific experiments being conducted on contained Sources, much like George's.
When Marissa Fittes spoke with the Skull, she asked it many questions about various topics. One topic in which she was very interested was the nature of ectoplasm. The Skull described it as being fascinating stuff in that it communicated, listened, and could be molded. More precisely, he described it as being the part of you that survives and passes from one side to the other. It stated that it could be called the life force or essence, but the point was that it does not decay or die. It stated further that it was how it knew that Penelope Fittes was Marissa, because their essence was exactly the same, looks meaning little.[1]
In her early years, Marissa wrote a monograph regarding ectoplasm titled Occult Theories. She mentioned this monograph in an interview with a reporter, back in the early days of the Problem, when few people took the idea of ghosts seriously. Within it, she stated that ectoplasm was the immortal stuff inside everyone and that understanding it would bring great benefits to humanity. She further stated that if its transformative power could be exploited, it would give control over life and death.[2]
In its most concentrated form, which burned many materials and could only be safely constrained by silver-glass, ectoplasm is known as ichor.
