Iron chains are typically used to create a protective circle for agents[1]. They come in several weights or gauges and may be clipped together at the ends to prevent unraveling[2]. They are effective against all types of ghosts, but most often used in cases involving Type Twos because filings aren't strong enough[3].
Notable Uses[]
Combe Carey Hall's Red Room[]
- Main article: Combe Carey Hall
During their hunt in Combe Carey Hall, a team from Lockwood & Co. tried to hunt inside the fabled Red Room, one of the most haunted rooms in Britain, which had already claimed the lives of two Agents of the Fittes Agency[4]. Inside the room, they encountered a cluster with abilities of a changer. They set up a ring of Iron Chains, which proved to be useless, as the powerful ghost was able to invade the middle of the ring, where the protection was weakest. This was probably partly due to the sheer power of the ghost, and partly due to the ring being too big[5][6].
Edmund Bickerstaff's unmarked grave[]
- Main article: Edmund Bickerstaff
Edmund Bickerstaff's unmarked grave was located on Kensal Green Cemetery[7]. During the excavation, protected by Lockwood & Co., Bickerstaff's grave was circled with iron chains. This proved to be ineffective though, as the extremely strong apparition was able to break out of the circle[8].
