Jessica Lockwood was the daughter of Donald and Celia Lockwood, and the older sister of Anthony Lockwood.

Biography[]

Jessica Lockwood died at the age of fifteen, after breaking an Indonesian ghost pot that her parents had brought home from an expedition. The pot had an inner lining of iron, which kept the ghost at bay until Jessica dropped it, releasing the ghost. Her younger brother, Anthony Lockwood, who was only nine during the incident, ran to her room after hearing her scream and managed to defeat the ghost, but unfortunately wasn't able to save her.[1][2]

Following Jessica's death, Anthony Lockwood kept the door to her room at 35 Portland Row locked at all times, sealing it away. When he began the Lockwood & Co. agency, he forbade those working for him to enter the room, refusing to discuss any details of his past. This continued for quite some time until the events of the case of the Bone Glass, at which point he decided it was necessary to show his two fellow agents, Lucy Carlyle and George Cubbins (George Karim), some real trust and revealed to them what was behind the door.[3]

Legacy and impact[]

The loss of Jessica affected Anthony Lockwood deeply, and after discovering his Talent of Sight, he left and was apprenticed by a man nicknamed "Gravedigger Sykes."[citation needed]

Personality[]

Lockwood describes Lucy quite as being quite like Jessica, having a headstrong, passionate personality.[citation needed]

Behind the scenes[]

The subject of what is behind the locked door at 35 Portland Row is kept as the subject of mystery for the first season of Netflix's Lockwood & Co. TV series. Although the book The Whispering Skull ends with Anthony Lockwood stating that his sister is behind the door, the details of this being left for the sequel The Hollow Boy, the final episode of the first season of the TV series, "Not The Eternal," ends with him preparing to open the door but not actually revealing any information. Regarding the matter, Ruby Stokes, who portrays Lucy Carlyle, stated that she has read that even some who have read the books have said they would be fine with leaving what is behind the door to interpretation, but she has not read any actual theories because she enjoys the moment of not knowing what's next.[4]
