Quill Kipps, a supervisor

This article is scheduled for a Rework.

A supervisor was an individual who oversaw a team of agents within a psychical investigation agency. Supervisors were generally older than the agents they supervised, either adults or on the verge of adulthood. In many cases, supervisors were former agents who once had Talent, but whose Talent had faded upon growing older. As explained by Quill Kipps, supervisors found themselves in a horrifying position, as they were expected to send others into danger but were often powerless themselves against that danger.

Lockwood & Co. was unique among agencies in employing no adult supervisors, conducting its operations entirely with agents of varying degrees of Talent. This sometimes earned them scorn from other agencies, but nevertheless proved instrumental in their efforts in solving the Problem, as they were not tied down by the same constraints and adherence to traditions that plagued other agencies.

Behind the scenes[]

In the Netflix Lockwood & Co. series, Inspector Montagu Barnes attempts to force Lockwood & Co. into accepting a supervisor after they burn down the house in which they found Annabel Ward's body. In the original The Screaming Staircase, they are told simply that they will be shut down if they cannot raise the fine in time.
