The Wimbledon Wraiths Cluster was a cluster active in Wimbledon. It consisted of 14 very aggressive Gallows Wraith's and was secured by the Fittes Agency, after an unsuccessful attempt by Lockwood & Co.[1][2].
History[]
The woods near Earlsfield Crossroads had featured an execution site, more specifically a gibbet, around the 17th century. At least one criminal of the cluster, John Mallory, was hung in 1744, but other dates are unknown. As all of the executions were criminals, manifestation was very likely, given the violent nature of their deaths. This was further amplified by the populous leaving their bodies hanging, left to "the attention of the crowes and carrion-birds" before the remains were buried somewhere near. Unlike most cases, these remains were not the source, but rather the gallows mark, above which the strung up bodies hung for days[1].
In the times of the problem, the forested site now known as Mallory's End, in reference to John Mallory, had become a toddler's playground. The sighting of a Wraith had made the playground rather unattractive, and the mayor of Wimbledon set out an open commission for any agency to seal the source of the haunting[3].
Abilities and Behaviour[]
Even in the early evening, the source emitted feelings of creeping fear and notable chill. This was combined with first apparitions, often only seen as shadows in the trees. During the night, the cluster would start to manifest, with more and more apparitions becoming visible. All of these were aggressive, starting their attack quickly after forming. The Clusters slow manifestation could lead agents to not notice the sheer amount of apparitions suddenly forming until it was too late. This was made even more dangerous as the cluster would surround it's victims, making an escape only possible through quick and coordinated action using flares or other defences against ghosts[1].
The apparitions of the cluster were all easily classifiable as Gallows Wraiths, displaying cut off hands, broken necks and a general look probably caused by days strung up after death. Notably, the cluster did not appear to emit a strong ghost-lock, which was uncommon for Wraiths[3][4].
